Hydrocarbon Monitoring System Advancement

Absrtact
This project aims to evaluate the measurement and calibration methods of Taiwan's hydrocarbon monitoring network and to propose advancement solutions. Our work targets include comparative analysis of measurement and calibration methods among advanced hydrocarbon monitoring network, analysis of the spatial and temporal distribution of hydrocarbon in Taiwan, evaluation of Taiwan’s hydrocarbon monitoring system stability, verifying traceability of hydrocarbon monitoring data, propose hydrocarbon monitoring system advancement program, and conducting a training seminar. Generally, the hydrocarbon monitoring system established by the Taiwan Environmental Protection Agency has been well maintained and operate stably with strict measurement and calibration standards referencing from the United States, Japan, and Canada. We’ve acquired quite consistent measurement results with a spectrum analyzer and the station instruments. Thus, we recommend that EPA keep the current hydrocarbon monitoring system and maintain the system stability. Though EPA can consider incorporating emerging monitoring methods under allowable cost to further improve monitoring efficiency since in recent years monitoring technology has been rapidly developing and evolving.
